Accelerated Parenting for Foster Parents

The concept of accelerated parenting started when our first placement was able to go back to their biological mom. My wife and I were trying to deal with the emotions of seeing the boys leave our house and head back to the world. I turned to God in prayer and asked Him to help me understand what we were feeling. At that moment, I remembered how my parents felt when it was time for my sister to leave the house and go to college. They also felt a sadness to see their oldest daughter leaving home. Then I realized that at some point in most parents’ lives, they will watch their child leave the house and hope they have done everything within their ability to prepare them.

The average parent has 18 years to prepare their child for going out into the world, whereas foster parents only have months to help their foster child be prepared to venture out into the world.
